Report waste to DEFRA
This guide walks you through it, one small step at a time. You do not need any computer experience.
You will fill in an official DEFRA spreadsheet in Excel, then upload it on the GOV.UK website. This guide only tells you what to do. It does not send anything to DEFRA.
It takes about 20 to 30 minutes the first time.
You have 2 working days
You must report every load of waste you receive. You have 2 working days from the day after the waste arrived.
Example: waste arrives 9am on Monday. You must report it by the end of Wednesday. Weekends and bank holidays do not count.

- 7. Save the file
- 8. Upload to DEFRA
- 9. Check the result
Keep your paperwork
Reporting to DEFRA online does not replace your waste transfer notes, consignment notes or any returns you already complete. Keep doing all of those until official guidance says otherwise.
